October 7th: Today Duke got in his first fight, at least according to his attending doctors. The doctors came in to see how Duke’s tone was today and he found Duke was putting up a fight. The doctors were trying to move his arms and Duke kept smacking their hands out of the way. The doctors say his tone is improving daily….I could have told them that though. Duke is now lifting his head more and his legs are very strong.
We also are on day 3 in a row of good CO2 counts, which can be attributed to prayer, positive vibes and the best positioning for sleeping. This was also the third day we had Alana as his nurse, who has worked very well with Duke. She was able to recognize the destats around his feeding times as reflux, which allowed him to get some reflux medication.
Since last week Duke and I have been reading a book together, Hunger Games. We just got to the end of the book and plot twist. As the end of the book was getting intense Duke woke up and looked up at me when I read, which he usually sleeps through. It was adorable but when I told my mom when she came she didn’t find it as fascinating, she liked talking to the nurse more. Mom gets along well with the nurses, because she can speak the language, when at times it is German to me.
