October 5th: Okay to all the readers who said “Wow, Crystal was a little mad yesterday” you are sort of right. I was frustrated with the Si-pap machine; which got the best of me (and the nurses). I am Fonzi cool now since my little bird was more alert today.
It was a little later day with Duke today, I had to get his and my insurance funness taken care of since I can’t drive and talk on a cell phone at the same time anymore (was going to break that habit when I started driving with him anyway). His nurse and I talked about his medical stats today to get more understanding as to why his SP02 (or depth of breath) jump around so much, many times is goes with the resting rate of his heart and he will be so relaxed the shallow breathes make more sense to his body.
Duke and I had some very nice kangaroo time today where we read our book. He opens his eyes sometimes to listen to some of the book, but most of the time he snores away. We were monitoring his CO2 counts today, and he has been doing okay, still high, but not bad. The struggle the doctors have is Duke’s x-rays show his lungs are good, but the CO2 just doesn’t want to regulate with his breathing. Sometimes the counts can be disheartening, but when his counts are good you can’t imagine a better feeling.
Grammy got to spend time with him today and found Duke likes to curl up in her lap rather than her chest. I have found when he is exceptionally comfortable that is what he will do, make his own little comfort ball. When he is stressed he extends himself blowfish to show his full size. He is a funny little bird.
For those of you who are John Wayne fans, The original not the mighty new Duke, The Coen brothers are remaking True Grit with Jeff Daniels playing The Dukes eye patch wearing lead. The trailer is available on imdb.com and I am not sure how I feel about the trailer.
